Nisma Alaklouk

is a Belgium-based, award-winning Palestinian writer and playwright, renowned for her contributions to both the literary and educational fields. her works have been featured on international stages and translated into multiple languages, including Dutch, English, and French. Nisma has published several novels, anthologies, and plays, earning prestigious prizes such as the Palestine Prize for Youth Writers 2020. Her storytelling captures diverse cultural experiences, and she continues to engage audiences through her unique voice and commitment to social and artistic discourse.

Prizes

  • 2011: Won first prize for the best play El-Tramal in the competition A’idoun Muntassiroun Prize.
  • 2011–2012: Awarded the Kattan Institution Prize for a short story collection titled In His Absence (2011) and the novel We Met Again (2013).
  • 2020: Won the Palestine Prize for Youth Writers for the novel Woman from Brussels.

Professional Experience

  • Contributed to writing the play 63 Not Last Time, which was performed at the Rachad Shawa Theatre in Gaza, organized by Ibhar Institution in 2010.
  • Served as a jury member for the Palestinian Creativity Award in 2011.
  • Several of my works have been translated into Dutch, English, Turkish, Italian and French.

2019/2020: Brusselse Vrouwen – a novel published in both Dutch and Arabic.

2009: We Met Again – a novel published in Arabic.

2011: Termal – a youth drama book published in Arabic by Tamer Institute for Community Education, Ramallah.

2013: In Old Dress – a novel published in Arabic by Ougarrite, Ramallah.

2015: Aan de Andere Oever van het Verlangen & Oorden en Woorden – anthology books published in Dutch.

2017: Atlas Brussel – an anthology published in Dutch by DWB.

2017: Ceci n’est pas une valise – an anthology published in French and Arabic.

Found her love in Belgium after fleeing from Gaza, and they built a life together. Married to a Flemish man and they extended this love by having children, creating a new chapter in their lives. Starting from scratch, she pursued her education, worked hard, and built a career as a project manager in the IT sector. For those who don’t see the link between writing, math, and management, they need to take a deeper look. The journey is living proof that these skills are connected, and with determination and resilience, we can achieve anything.
